The Lost Boys
Welcome to our blog! We will be writing about our adventures throughout Europe over the next half year (or longer). In case you read our title and thought "Lost Boys, wtf?" The Lost Boys are Peter Pan's followers who do not want to grow up. In order to stop the process of growing up and avoid responsibilities the Lost Boys escaped to Never Never Land. In our case Europe is our Never Never Land, a place to escape from growing up, from getting jobs, from becoming real people and having a shit ton of fun along the way!

Mark is the bobble head of the infamous Mark Bradford, father of the Bradford family. The Bradford family took me in under their wing while I lived in Indiana and so I thought I would take a piece of the along with me on this trip.

So if you find yourself being a grown up with responsibilities and are bored at work or at home, your escape is only a click away!

Thanks for reading!

What the hell is happening to me?

So I think I might try being a vegetarian for a bit... I know, I know, please hold all judgments and hear me out.  The fruit, veggies, cheese, and seafood are so incredibly delectable, and delicious that there really is no need for meat.  I mean if someone as big as Prince Fielder can do it, I can do it, right?
Yes, that is a grilled octopus tentacle, and yes it was delicious!

With that being said, I really could use some convincing to start eating meat, so please direct all of your venison shipments to "Mongoloid Mike's Meat Fund" 9 Ipitou, Athens, Greece.

You know what really grinds my gears?

Selfish people really grind my gears.  I just can not believe how some people lack the capacity to think outside of themselves and others around them.  Note to those selfites out there, I know you think you are God's gift to this world but you are not, try something new and put someone else first.  Maybe it's just me, and the fact I have been lucky enough to have such selfless role models in my parents, aunts and uncles.

With that being said, on this trip I have meet a lot of truly great, and sincere people.  These experiences give me hope that not the whole world is full of self absorbed, untrustworthy, douche bags!

Guest Blogger!!

Sorry to all of our loyal followers, we have been traveling for the last week!  I know I know, work must have been boring without us!  I promise we will make more of an effort to keep you entertained on the world and the amazing times you are missing out on while you are stuck stateside.  Unfortunately the only thing you statesiders have up on us is family.  Family and some friends are the only things we miss from the states.  Luckily for us we received a taste of family this week, when  Jamie's mom, dad (Ryan), brother (Corey), along with my brother (Phillip) came to visit us!  Scroll down to read the posts from Susan, Jamie's mom, about our adventures from this past week while we were away.  Make sure you scroll down to read all of her posts and enjoy!

Susan's Memoirs #7...

I have to admit something I feel a little bad about though, I did pretend a couple of times that I was from Canada because of the aversion Greeks have to Americans.  I t did get me into trouble though when a Greek hearing that I was from Montreal started to talk French to me.  I however want to bless my mom, Jonelle for teaching us “Pig-Latin” because it was a hoot seeing people try to figure out what we were saying. I want to also add that I enjoyed the fresh markets even the meat section with it’s hanging sides of carne.

Susan's Memoirs #6...

I have to admit when Jamie and Michael told us about the dogs in Greece being everywhere and not too friendly to Greeks I couldn’t picture it but know I’d like to take some of these guys home with us.  In Santorini we have even named a few of our furry friends because they have traveled almost everywhere with us.  They are kind of like rent a dogs but better you don’t have to clean up the mess but beware where you step, tred lightly or else!

Susan's Memoirs #5...

We ate our way through Greece and I do believe we would rival the Eat, Pray, Love author who ate her way through Italy.  In Greece each ethnic region for the same tastes different.

Octopus
Zucchini Balls

Dad or Grandpa you could teach them a thing or two about making the bread though.  Dad yours still is number one!

Susan's Memoirs #4...

Well as a mother I’m so proud of my son for steeping out of his comfort zone to jump back into the world of the feminine mystique.  Michael alias wingman was there for support and we even got ditched one evening when Jamie broke into conversation with a very beautiful and board young Athenian out to dinner with a male friend.

Susan's Memoirs #3...

Michael scored us a quaint little beach hotel in Thessaloniki.  We stood on hallowed ground where St. Peter wrote letters to the Thessalonians and preached the Christian doctrine of one God and the savior his son.  Many religious roadside worship sites dot the roadside.  The number of small churches almost outnumbers residents on some of the small towns we drive through.  The Greek Orthodox Church We went into hade many gold framed pictures of Saints.  I observed several people go up to these pictures and kiss them with their lips.  I had to see if they merely looked as if they were kissing the frame but sure enough there were multiple lip marks on the glass.  Germophobes wouldn’t make it in a Greek Orthodox religion.

Also want to thank Michael for supplying me with super literature to read on the trip.  The travel on trains and planes is made so much more peasant with the “kindle” and the biographical novel, Unbroken written by the same author who wrote Seabiscut.

Susan's Memoirs #2...

Yum, I can’t wait to get back and serve up some fresh Greek salad this summer.  But I know I’ll fall short on the sun-ripened goodness that is found in the tomatoes in Greece.  “America shame on you for trading artificially ripened produce an image that tastes like fiber for seasonably time ripened fruits and produced meant to satisfy the stomach first and foremost.
Planes, trains and automobiles … Four wheeling, two feet and least we forget taxis that are Mercedes Benz!
The wind is cold but the sun and company radiate a lot of warmth.

Susan's Memoirs #1...

Michael and Jamie you rock as hosts.  We have been so relaxed and entertained at the same time.  The pace of our trip was packed full but yet we didn’t feel the urge to hurry, except when we almost missed our train.  You are patient and make great Ambassadors for America with your manners and friendliness.  Don’t give into the pushing in lines, the beeping and elbowing of people out of the way that is customary over here.

Susan's Memoirs...

The view from the Parthenon was panoramic.  You can clearly see the harbor below and Athens is laid out down below in a bowl shaped depression.  There is a haze the veils the city in a gentle brown. .Athens looks to be made out of building blocks of cement that are six to seven stories high.
When you gaze out upon the landscape is looks like the inside of a geode all angles and jagged.
The history is so ancient it just is hard to grasp for Americans who have maybe 300 years under their belt.  We are mere infants in the annals of time.

Mark v.s. Michael

It was a beautiful sunny day in Ancient Olympia. The old Olympic dirt track lie in wait to be used once again. You could feel the spirit of competition emanating from the grounds. That's when Mark, lifted by the Olympic spirit, challenged Michael to a race of both wills and stamina. Michael agreed to that challenge and the stipulations were discussed. The loser of the race would have to do whatever the winner asks of them. Both contestants were very eager as they lined up to the block. I was actually able to speak with both of the contestants and ask them their feelings about the challenge ahead.
-Jamie: "Michael what are your feelings about this race, what do you have in mind for the loser when you win?"
-Michael: "Well, Jamie, I'm feeling pretty confident at the moment. I was watching Mark warm up earlier and he looks pretty stiff. Either way it's going to be a tough race, but I think I can pull out a W. As far as the bet goes, if I win I'm making Mark do my laundry for a week. Ha!"
-Jamie: "Alright I'll let you get back to business, thanks for your time. Now over to Mark."
-Jamie: "Mark, I just spoke to your opponent, he seems pretty confident. How are your feelings about the race? Do you think you can win? And what do you have in mind for Michael if you win?"
-Mark: (smiles and nods his head up and down)
-Jamie: "Oh the silent type, I see. Your smile and nod says it all Mark. Good luck to you!"

Back on the block, Michael and Mark stood in angst, poised waiting for the drop of my arm. You could cut the tension with a knife.

Go!

Mark getting an early lead!
Mark pulling away!

Mark is the victor!
Michael hanging his head in defeat. Mark getting crowned with olive leaves.
Michael upholding his part of the bet!
Apparently, Mark's part of the bet was for Michael to pose naked like a Greek statue! After, while Mark was drinking his victory Miller Lite, I was able to go down to the track and congratulate him on the race.
-Jamie: "Wow Mark! Congratulations! I can't believe you did it, especially all in your suit, purely amazing! So, what proceeds this race? Maybe Olympic training? Retirement?"
-Mark: (the wind blew, moving his head from side to side)
-Jamie: "I can only take that as you don't want to answer any more questions. It's okay, no worries. Enjoy your win in peace my friend!"

As Michael sat, bare-ass, I could only imagine the defeat and embarrassment he was feeling at the moment. But a bets a bet, and he took it like a champ. Even the gods were cracking a smile.

Faithful Followers

Sorry about the lack of blog posts lately, I know we are failing you in steeping your boredom at work.  Many of you probably checking several times a day (don't worry I won't name names).  This weekend we are headed on our first excursion with the school to four different sites throughout Greece.  Hope all of you have safe travels if headed on Spring Break 11, and others have a great weekend!  We will have new material for you on Monday.

When asked where you are from, say Australia (Pt. 2)

Sorry it has been so long since I have finished this blog post. I have been super busy and our internet has been sucking... well you know whats. Anyways I have to finish the story that I started earlier in Pt. 1, but I can't actually finish it, sorry.

So the night I got ignored by the Greek goddess from the beauty salon and heard the bad news about Greek women, I decided to take up the challenge. Later that night, after a bottle of wine, we went to the local hookah bar to hang out and watch the soccer game. I was feeling pretty good, and for once since my break-up, I was feeling super outgoing. We were about to sit down when I noticed 2 cute girls sitting by themselves. I immediately hurdled the chair, or so I'm told, and hopped into the seat next to them. From then on the conversation started to fly. We got to a point where we were talking about Greek men and women, so I had to ask the same question that I asked the store clerk, "Are Greek women stuck up, do they not like American guys?" They responded back, "Yes, Greek women are kind of stuck up, but we are from Cyprus, and no one really likes American guys." Again my heart sank, I think they noticed the looks on our faces. We told them we were American. They exchanged glances and we asked them why this was so bad. The response was what we expected.

But then, one of the girls added, "Maybe you should just say you are Australian." It was like an epiphany! The clouds opened and the sun shone through! Of course! Greeks don't really know the difference between English dialects. Michael at this moment grinned and said, "Put another shrimp on the barbie!" which was met with very confused looks. To put the icing on the cake I said, "The dingo ate your baby." Apparently those jokes haven't made it to Greece yet.

Sometime later we were talking about how old we were, not knowing their ages. Judging from their looks we thought they were young so Michael told him he was 22. Again both girls exchanged looks, "Ha you are so young, we are 24," they said. I had to try to recover the fumble by mentioning I was 24 also. Then, Lana, one of the girls, said, "You probably just tell people you are 22 just so you can pick up girls." She wasn't all the way incorrect...

So thinking I was smooth as butter and cool as a cucumber I asked what the girls were doing later. Niki, the other girl, said she was going out, and even though I was feeling defeated, she invited us out. Michael and I looked at each other, shrugged, "When in Athens right?!"

After a short walk to Gazi, we stopped out in front of this seedy place. That's when I started to notice the amount of dudes that were going into the place. Niki looked at me and told me it was a gay bar. I was like great she thinks Mike and I are super gay together. It was a 10 dollar cover and I was not about to go in. For the 2nd time, I thought this night had come to an end, and with my tail between my legs, I would head home. I looked at Michael, he told me to go in, gave me his 10 bucks, mentioned something about saving his own ass(literally), and booked it home. One gay bar entrance was apparently enough for him. I started to weigh my options at this moment. Go home and sleep, making tonight's game worth nothing? Or suck it up, not literally, and go for it. I decided that I would go in, only if she would take me out to coffee. Needless to say, the night was pretty fun. She ended up being a really sweet girl! We exchanged numbers at the end of the night, I got attacked by dogs on the way home, but all in all a good night. I sent her a text the next morning and waited for her response...

Yes there is a Part 3, sorry.

Patras Carnival!

So this weekend we went to the 3rd largest carnival party in the world.  Carnival to Greece is a mix between Halloween and Mardi Gras.  In order to fit in with the locals we had to dress up...
On Saturday night the parade of lights lasted for over 3.5 hrs!  There were some really cool floats.
Greeks love their flares...
Other than floats the parade consisted of certain groups of anywhere from 30-100 people who were dressed up in various costumes representing different things.
One can only sit through a 3.5 hour parade for so long...
So of course we found a group with black costumes on and joined in the parade!
In the parade we danced with this group for many blocks...

Oh yeah, the scenery of Carnival wasn't so bad to look at either...enjoy some of the scenery...
Post or Pre girl v girl kiss?
Sorry have to keep the blog G-rated so most pics won't make it on here...sorry mother!
